| An attractive orange and yellow butterfly native to meadows in parts of Europe. Scientific name Gonepteryx cleopatra. Females do not have the orange colouring, and as a result are easily be confused with the male Brimstone butterfly (G. rhamni). It is one of the few butterflies that never opens its wings while at rest; indeed the only way to glimpse the bright orange of the male is to watch one in flight or catch one. |
